Felicia Taylor E. presents Southern Spiced: A Brown Girl’s Tale
“I knew in my spirit that Brown girls could fly too, and land in a magical place like Oz”
Southern Spiced: A Brown Girl’s Tale weaves stories through narrative poetry of the author’s memories of her childhood. From adolescence to young adulthood we experience her adventures and challenges with life and family. And also journey with her to find inner strength as she lives through the often, not so silent conflicts of the 1970’s South.
Her stories of self identity and observation of southern experience is honest, poignant, entrancing and often humorous.
Robert Vincent presents From The Pocket of an Overcoat
From the Pocket of an Overcoat is a children’s book written and illustrated by Robert Vincent and inspired by the real-life story of his son Matthew's black cat named Max who was rescued by a homeless woman in Dallas (who had Max in her pocket with another kitty and a passel of pups she was asking people to take in) and adopted by Matthew. It tells the story of an affable cat, Max Buckles, through his adventure of finding a new home and family – and being loved for who he is. He goes from the cozy overcoat pocket of Sally in the city, to the country with Farmer Buckles and his other animals, including his four dogs – Sam, Tots, Scotty, and Junior Buckles. Along the way, he discovers a true sense of belonging within his new family. As told through the journey of Max the cat, this is a story about self-identity, acceptance, animal rescue and adoption - all timely and timeless lessons/themes. A portion of each book sale is currently being donated to organizations that promote animal rescue and adoption: The Humane Society, Best Friends, and Alley Cat Allies. www.maxbuckles.com
