As part of our “Women on Wednesdays” series, please join American University's Women & Politics Institute for a virtual conversation with journalist, author and advocate Gretchen Carlson and political consultant and advocate Julie Roginsky, co-founders of the non-profit “Lift Our Voices.” WPI Executive Director Betsy Fischer Martin will moderate the discussion. Gretchen Carlson and Julie Roginsky will discuss Lift Our Voices’ mission to end the silencing of harassment victims through forced arbitration and non-disclosure agreements. The conversation will focus on how advocating for workers’ rights, empowering grassroots change, promoting positive policies, and giving a voice to the voiceless can transform the American workplace. ABOUT GRETCHEN CARLSON
Gretchen Carlson is a journalist, author, television personality, and co-founder of the non-profit, Lift Our Voices. She is a PEOPLE TV special contributor and host of the daily news podcast “Get The News With Gretchen Carlson” on Quake Media. She previously appeared as the host of numerous television programs, including CBS’s The Early Show, Fox & Friends, and The Real Story with Gretchen Carlson.
An internationally recognized advocate for women’s rights, Carlson’s bold actions against Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes was a watershed moment in the global #MeToo movement. Carlson was named one of Time Magazine’s “100 Most Influential People in the World” and is the author of the New York Times bestseller “Be Fierce” and “Getting Real.”
Carlson is an honors graduate of Stanford University and studied at Oxford University. ABOUT JULIE ROGINSKY
Julie Roginsky is a co-founder of the non-profit, Lift Our Voices. A nationally recognized political consultant, Roginsky began her career working at a prominent organization dedicated to electing more women to political office. Throughout her career, she has focused her efforts on mentoring and empowering women who seek to become engaged in the political process.
Roginsky is a former contributor at CNBC and the Fox News Channel, where she was a frequent co-host of “Outnumbered” and “The Five”. In 2017, she became one of the first women to file a sexual harassment and retaliation lawsuit against the Fox News Channel and its chairman.
She serves as an advisor to major corporations, start-ups, non-profits, labor unions, and dozens of elected officials, including governors, senators, members of the House of Representatives, and state legislators.
Roginsky received both her B.A. and M.A. with honors from Boston University. ABOUT BETSY FISCHER MARTIN
Betsy Fischer Martin is an Emmy-winning journalist and former TV news executive. Currently, she is the Executive Director of the Women & Politics Institute at American University and a faculty member in the School of Public Affairs, where she teaches courses on campaigns and elections. During her earlier career in television news, she spent 23 years at NBC News serving as the longtime Executive Producer of Meet the Press with Tim Russert and as the Managing Editor of NBC News Political Programming.
A native of New Orleans, Fischer Martin did her undergraduate and graduate work at American University in Washington, DC. She is a cum laude graduate of their School of Public Affairs and earned a master’s degree in Broadcast Journalism from the AU School of Communication.
