t.m.s presents L-FENT: In conversation with Delphine Geia (Part 1)
By t.m.s
Note before: this webinar will be RECORDED for those who cannot attend live.
L-FENT stands for "Learning From Experiences Not Textbooks"
Having my lived experience and cultural identity challenged by an individual that positioned themselves as an expert (as a teacher of History) made me realise something: if we took the time to learn from people who have had adverse lived experiences, maybe we could reframe the way that history is taught to our future generations...
And so, L-FENT is my way of creatively coping with this challenging experience whilst simultaneously prioritising and amplifying the lived experiences of adversity as a way forward.
In the first webinar of L-FENT, I will be joined by the wonderful Delphine Geia:
Delphine is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander woman from Palm Island, residing in the nearby regional centre of Townsville, a major city in far North Queensland. As a Registered Music Therapist, Delphine particularly prefers to work in the areas of Palliative Care, Dementia Care, Psychiatric Care, Aged Care, Youth and Family Care and Spiritual Care. Further, Delphine's extensive qualifications, including an Advanced Diploma in Indigenous Ministries, are specific to supporting her professional role as pivotal for highlighting the awareness and education of social justice issues facing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people as determinants that influence the gaps in health inequality.
In this 1.5 hour webinar, we will touch on the following topics:
- The importance of presence
- Cultural safety in Music Therapy
- The unique challenges faced by BIPoC Music Therapists
- The real experts in the room
Though this conversation will be centred around Music Therapy, we encourage non-music therapists to also be part of this conversation. There will be ample opportunity to ask questions during this LIVE webinar.
