Jana is the cofounder and investment lead of Synergy Social Ventures, a Hong Kong-based organization created in 2011 to support the nascent impact investing and social venture ecosystems in Southeast Asia. Synergy invests catalytic capital into early-stage social ventures and works with next-generation philanthropists and investors providing impact investment training through hands-on experiential learning. She has been actively investing for over ten years into ventures operating in Southeast Asia, North America, Latin America and Africa.

Jana was previously Director of Impact Investments at the University of British Columbia, where she was instrumental in developing a social venture incubator and impact fund. She is a researcher and writer on impact investment topics and frequently advises investors, family offices, government agencies and intergovernmental organizations on strategies for using financial capital for economic and social impact. In particular, Jana is passionate about early-stage catalytic capital, innovative financing structures, blended finance and impact measurement.

Tom joined Active Impact Investments as a partner in 2018.

He is engaged in all aspects of the business, with a particular focus on identifying and evaluating potential additions to the Active Impact portfolio.  Tom is motivated by his desire to facilitate meaningful environmental and social impact while earning strong financial returns for values-aligned investors.

Prior to joining Active Impact, Tom spent over 25 years practicing tax law and was a Senior Partner at Thorsteinssons LLP, the leading tax law boutique in Canada.  This included a term as the Managing Partner.  Tom was regularly recognized as a Canadian leader in the field of tax, working with high profile clients and dealing with high value, complex transactions.
