The Kerlan Award: Ariane Dewey | A Twin Cities Book Festival Event

By Rain Taxi

Join us as we honor a pioneer of children’s literature!
The 2021 Kerlan Award will be presented to Ariane Dewey in recognition of singular attainments in the creation of children’s literature. Since the 1960s, Dewey has been a force in the field, and is especially famed for her use of color; with Jose Aruego, she illustrated more than sixty children’s books, including the perennial classic Leo the Late Bloomer, and has won numerous awards for both their collaborations and her solo work, including a Boston Globe/Horn Book Honor. Originally from Chicago, Dewey now lives in New York City. At this special event, Ariane Dewey will discuss her work with the Kerlan Collection curator, Lisa Von Drasek. Co-sponsored by the University of Minnesota Libraries and the Friends of The Kerlan.
