About the book

When expectant mother Maddie Gatlin moves to the country with her husband, she hopes to begin a quiet life of happiness and peace. Instead, she finds herself haunted by uncertainty about her readiness for motherhood, and an inability to move beyond past heartbreak. When she discovers a tiny human-like creature in her new backyard, and the mysterious man seeking to capture it, she finds herself encountering a battle between forces she cannot understand... some of which reside within her own heart and mind.
The Keeping of Little Things is a dream-like exploration of a young woman's psyche as she seeks to understand what it means to love and be loved.

About the author

Todd Michael Cox was born and raised in northern Wisconsin, and now makes his home in the Madison area. He has a degree in English from UW-Oshkosh, and is the author of the novels We Are Strange Creatures, Invasion of the Beekeepers, and Of Reptiles and Amphibians, as well as several others. These works are often intimate studies of people struggling with past heartbreak or family trauma, and sometimes include fantasy elements, such as kaiju (We Are Strange Creatures), werewolves (Beast), or homunculi (The Keeping of Little Things), but the focus is always on real people and real environments. His interest in wild places and his love of animals, particularly those considered less-than-cuddly, led him to found the Snake Anti-Defamation League, a group dedicated to defending the reputations of those misunderstood and maligned animals. The Keeping of Little Things is his first novel since finishing treatment for laryngeal cancer in January of 2024.
