Amb. Kay Bailey Hutchison, Live With The 19th

President Donald Trump appointed Hutchison to be the 22nd U.S. permanent representative to NATO and she was confirmed by the U.S. Senate in August 2017. Hutchison previously served as a U.S. senator from Texas from 1993 to 2013 and authored a book on gender representation in that chamber with her female colleagues. A provision in the U.S. tax code is named for Hutchison that allows spouses who do not work outside the home to contribute to their own individual retirement account.

Ambassador Kay Bailey Hutchison (@USAmbNATO) was sworn in as the Permanent Representative of the United States to NATO on August 15, 2017. From 1993-2013, she served as a U.S. Senator from Texas and was also elected to a Senate leadership position. Ambassador Hutchison gained extensive international experience and developed a deep understanding of NATO as a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee. She also chaired the Military Construction Subcommittee and was a member of the Defense Subcommittee on the Senate Appropriations Committee. She served two terms as Chairman of the Board of Visitors of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

Ambassador Hutchison earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Texas and a degree of Juris Doctor from the University of Texas School of Law. She calls Dallas home and has two children.
