Programming:
Black Mayors and Black Communities
In recent years, we’ve seen a wave of mayors in cities around the country: young, Black, and committed to their communities. We’ll talk to some of these leaders about what it means to be mayor of a city with a large Black population, what challenges they and their constituents face, and what they got into politics to fight for.
The Next Wave of Black Leaders
From local to state to federal politics, the call for a change in the status quo has been loud — and Black Americans are answering. We’ll talk to rising stars in political leadership about the changing landscape and what they hope to accomplish for themselves, their communities, and for our country
Tech for Good: Health Equity
A look at how tech and innovation can be used to make much needed advancements on some of the most critical health issues facing Black communities today.
Growing the Pipeline
The lack of diversity in tech is often blamed on the “pipeline” issue: the need for more Black students to study engineering, computer science, and other related fields in order to populate lucrative tech jobs that could lead to leadership positions. We’ll explore this issue, and what’s being done to advance progress on diversity in tech.
Real Solutions to the Racial Wealth Gap
Systemic racism and a lack of access to important economic programs, layered on top of the economic legacy of slavery, mean that the gap between white wealth and Black wealth remains stark — and it has actually gotten more dire in recent years. It has been proven that simple financial management tweaks will do nothing to close this gap, but substantive federal policy changes could. Join Capital B for a conversation on what the government could do to close the racial wealth gap.
