Integrating Development, Masterplanning and Net Zero
By Environment Analyst
The Committee on Climate Change’s 2020 Progress Report to Parliament acknowledges that, whilst some limited steps have been taken over the last year to support the transition to a net zero economy and improve resilience to the impacts of climate change, there is still significant work to be done.
In response, more than half of the local authorities across the UK have now declared a climate emergency. What does this mean and how can impacts at a local planning policy level be addressed? As environmental specialists, designers and planners our position is one of responsibility. We are well positioned to help draw together the range of development factors that contribute to carbon output and absorbance. Zero carbon masterplannning helps to drive informed housing, recreational, employment and transport infrastructure provision and thereby eliminate, through early decision-making, some of the highest levels of potential carbon output.
In our current context where climate change ambition and policy are misaligned and there is an ever changing and evolving planning context, this webinar aims to explore the challenges and opportunities of delivering net zero development and how our design and masterplanning approach can establish sustainable targets and principles toward the required balance, and crucially bind these into downstream construction and operation stages.
This Sustainability Delivery Group Expert Talk will see Aydin Zorlutuna, UK Director - Landscape, Masterplanning, Urbanism, and Becky Kearney, Development Services Lead, Arcadis, explore integrating development, masterplanning and net zero.
