With so much going on in school, certain priorities can fall down the agenda. Curriculum is no different. It might get some focus at INSET but then momentum can seep away over time. Setting up systems and support structures at all levels are key to making sure it doesn’t.
But how do you ensure it stays high on the agenda? How do you set up leadership structures to do that? How do you equip and support your middle leaders to be able to consider and articulate the curriculum (not just up to leadership but also down to the subject teams)? How do you empower teachers to keep developing their understanding of the rationale of and their subject knowledge of the curriculum?
In this master class colleagues from Yate Academy (Greenshaw Learning Trust) will share:
- How they structure leadership cycles and meetings with middle leaders
- How they support their middle leaders to consider and articulate their curriculum including: the template they use the guiding questions asked the meeting schedule they operate
- How middle leaders support their teachers to continually develop their understanding of their rationale behind and subject knowledge of their curricula including how they run curriculum subject meetings to improve teacher subject knowledge a demonstration of HoD input at a subject leader meeting
Master class presenters:
- Izzy Ambrose - Headteacher
- Tim Pottle - Assistant Principal (Post-16 and Curriculum )
- Graham Dakin Assistant Head (Curriculum & Assessment, Henley Bank)
Who is this masterclass for:
- Senior leaders who want to set up systems and structures to ensure curriculum remains high o the agenda and want to support their middle leaders to improve their rationale and articulation of the curriculum
- Middle leaders who want to think more deeply about the rationale of their curriculum, they way they articulate it and how they support their subject teams to keep improving their understanding of the rationale of, and their knowledge of the content, of the curriculum in their subject area.
