Profs and Pints Online presents: “Hamilton and Washington,” a look at history underlying the hit Hamilton musical, with Denver Brunsman, associate professor of history at George Washington University and lecturer at Mount Vernon.
Bummed you can't go to see the Hamilton musical? Already saw it, but want a deep understanding of the action on stage? Don't worry, Profs and Pints has you covered. Denver Brunsman, a historian who inevitably captivates Profs and Pints audiences, will give an interactive online talk on the relationship between two of the musical's leading figures, George Washington and Alexander Hamilton.
As the Hamilton musical makes clear, it was crucial for the real-life Alexander Hamilton to have George Washington on his side. Washington’s junior by a generation, Hamilton acted as both a surrogate son and equal to the nation’s first president. Together, they made history in shaping America as we still know it.
Professor Brunsman will detail their collaboration in creating the United States, from the Revolutionary War and Constitutional Convention to the launching of the federal government and of America’s financial system. He will explore all things Washington in Hamilton's world, including the selection of this city on the Potomac for the new capital of the United States, made newly famous by the Hamilton song, “The Room Where It Happens.”
