"Hacking Job Stagnation" - Super Cyber Friday

By CISO Series

Please join us on Friday October 4, 2024 for Super Cyber Friday.

Our topic of discussion will be “Hacking Job Stagnation: An hour of critical thinking about what to do when you're stuck in a rut.”

Joining David Spark (@dspark), producer of CISO Series for this discussion will be:
  • Keith Townsend, Chief Technology Advisor, The Futurum Group
  • Steve Zalewski, co-host, Defense in Depth
In preparation for our discussion, think about the following:
  • How can someone recognize when they're truly stuck in a rut versus just going through a temporary phase? What are the early signs of job stagnation?
  • What are the most important questions someone should ask themselves when they feel their career has hit a plateau?
  • How do you figure out if acquiring new skills is the key to breaking out of stagnation?
  • How can mentorship play a role in overcoming job stagnation? What should you look for in a mentor to help you navigate through this phase?
  • Is it better to seek out new roles within your current organization when you feel stuck, or should you look externally? How do you weigh the pros and cons of each option?
  • How much does company culture contribute to feelings of job stagnation? What can employees do if they feel their organization's culture is holding them back?
  • What strategies can help professionals reignite their passion for their work? How do you find purpose in your role again after feeling disengaged?
  • How can you differentiate between job stagnation and burnout? What steps should be taken if your career rut is actually linked to deeper mental health issues?
  • Could saying no to certain projects or tasks actually help combat job stagnation? How can setting boundaries reignite your sense of control and engagement in your work?
  • How should someone re-evaluate their long-term career goals when they feel stuck? What frameworks or tools can help people align their day-to-day tasks with their bigger career ambitions?
It all starts at 1 PM Eastern/10 AM Pacific. At the end of the hour [2 PM Eastern/11 AM Pacific] we'll switch gears to our meetup where everyone will get a chance to chat face to face.

ALSO...
  • Best bad ideas get first responses in "Department of YES" or “Beat the Bad Idea”.
  • The BEST bad idea wins an award and a really awesome CISO Series jacket. Also, if you register early by the Tuesday (5pm PT) of that week’s video chat, you will be entered into a raffle where one lucky register will win a jacket (Winners must be US residents. Super Cyber Fridays are open discussions where all viewers and listeners are welcome to become participants. Before the scheduled event, connect your webcam and microphone (avoid Bluetooth). During the discussion, if you have a question or comment, let it be known in the chat room and our producer will do his best to get as many of you into the conversation.
