Award-winning historian (and our 2020 Annual Meeting Lecturer) Kimberly Hamlin kicks off Women's History Month with a discussion of  her book, Free Thinker: Sex, Suffrage, and the Extraordinary Life of Helen Hamilton Gardener.

Free Thinker reveals the fascinating story of the “fallen woman” who reinvented herself and became the “most potent factor” in Congressional passage of the 19th Amendment.

Frequent Washington Post contributor and historical consultant Hamlin is also the co-founder of the Mercantile Library’s Allgood-McLean Women You Should Know Series. She is a Professor of History and Global and Intercultural Studies at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio; and lives with her family in Cincinnati.
