Holocaust Remembrance Day Recollections: Renate Krakauer
By TPL Programs
While Holocaust Remembrance Day commemorates the murder of six million Jews by the Nazis, it also reminds us what can happen when an evil regime takes power with little or no opposition. Join us and learn about one family’s experiences living through the systematic efforts by the Nazis to annihilate the Jews of Eastern Europe. Meet Holocaust survivor, Renate Krakauer, listen to her testimony, ask questions, and gain a better understanding of the impact of the Holocaust at a personal level. Introduction provided by Daniella Lurion from Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies (FSWC).
Speakers:
Renate Krakauer survived the Holocaust in Stanislawow, Poland (now Ivanofrankivsk, Ukraine) as a young child. She and her parents came as refugees to Canada in December 1948. Since retirement, Renate has published her memoir, But I Had a Happy Childhood and her Holocaust-themed novel,Only by Blood. She has also written numerous essays, articles, and short stories. Renate speaks to audiences of all ages as an adult educator and a child Holocaust survivor.
Daniella Lurion has been with FSWC for over 8 years, most recently as Director of the Tour for Humanity. In her role as part of the FSWC Education department, she oversees the Tour for Humanity program, and spends a lot of her time on the bus crisscrossing the country.
