Exposed Digital Launch Reading
By Kweli Journal
Join us for the Exposed Digital Launch Reading on Thursday, June 23, 2022, 7PM EST, with Kweli 2021 Fiction Fellows Kukuwa Ashun, Arpita Chakrabarty and Delia Selina Taylor. They will read excerpts of their work from Kweli's current issue, discuss the art and craft of writing fiction and how a still image of a partially clad female impersonator in erotic pose speaks to their work.
Kukuwa Ashun is a progeny of Ghanaian immigrants. A 2021 Kweli Writing Fellow, Kukuwa holds a BA in Creative Writing from SUNY Purchase and an MFA from New York University. She is working on a novel and collection of short stories in Brooklyn.
Arpita Chakrabarty is a 2021 Kweli Fellow. Her journalism has been published on Al Jazeera, The Indian Express, The Hindu, The Wire, People's Archive of Rural India, among others. She also works as a consultant in the intersection of gender, sexuality and technology with women and LGBTQ groups in India. Arpita began her MFA in Creative Writing at Cornell University in Fall 2021.
Delia Selina Taylor is a writer and editor from Brooklyn, New York. Her work is largely concerned with voicelessness, myth, and the performativity of race and gender. She is a both a Kimbilio and Kweli Fellow and her writing has been supported by the Bread Loaf Writers Conference and Tin House Summer Workshop. She is working on a novel.
The cover art for Kweli's current issue is a still image from the Bonnie Clark Collection of a partially clad female impersonator in erotic pose (ca. 1910s to 1930s).
