About the Book:
The democracy you live in today is different – completely different – than the democracy you were born into. If you’re like most Americans, you almost certainly don’t realize just how radically our republic has been altered. Yet more than any single issue, more than any political trend, more than Donald Trump, our redesigned political process is responsible for the danger America finds itself in today.
What exactly does our new system of government look like? How can we restore the promise of American democracy before it’s too late? And how can we truly understand what’s happened to our country without wanting to crawl under a rock?
New York Times bestselling author and former Obama speechwriter David Litt sets out to answer these questions in his concise yet comprehensive, impeccably researched, and unexpectedly hilarious new book, DEMOCRACY IN ONE BOOK OR LESS: How It Works, Why It Doesn’t, and Why Fixing It Is Easier Than You Think.
The author of the memoir Thanks, Obama (which the Atlantic called “graceful, instructive, [and] wry,” and the New York Times Book Review called “alchemical, wringing comedy, pathos, and a nation’s hope out of one man’s stumble through the halls of power”), Litt now brings his signature wit and insight to our troubled democracy.

About the Moderator:
FRED GUTTENBERG began his public life after the murder of his beautiful 14 year old daughter Jaime in the Parkland school shooting on Feb 14th. The day after the murder, Fred decided to attend a public vigil in Parkland. While there, the Mayor asked him to speak. His words shook a nation and he has not stopped since. Fred and his wife Jennifer now spend time challenging our elected officials to do more. They began a nonprofit organization dedicated to Jaime’s life called “Orange Ribbons for Jaime”. He has been a regular on TV news programs and myriad of online and print media. Through the formation of the non-profit, this is now his full-time mission.
