The Friday Fireside - Creating a community flywheel with Rosie Sherry
By The Happy Startup School
More and more we're being called to build communities around our businesses.
Or even make a businesses out of community building.
But building and managing communities is tough.
And it isn't for the faint-hearted.
It takes a lot of energy, attention, consistency and care.
If you're doing it just to generate customers for your business then think again.
But if you're doing it from a real place of service where you value connection and creating a collective spirit of purpose and direction then how do you keep going without burning out.
Rosie Sherry is a serial community builder. She is founder of Rosie Land, a community of community builders. She bootstrapped the Ministry of Testing community, ran the Indie Hackers community and is currently community lead at Orbit, a tool for managing communities.
Recently she's been interested in the idea of community flywheels.
You remember what a flywheel is?
They were used to power those little toy cars that would zip across the kitchen floor after you revved it up manically with your arm.
A flywheel is a way to store energy and then release it over time without your input.
How can we create a similar effect in our communities where we can build up the momentum and keep them moving forward without burning out?
Join us to hear Rosie's ideas on the topic.
