The Classicist is an annual journal from the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art (ICAA) dedicated to the classical tradition in architecture and the allied arts. Focused on Florida, the Classicist No. 17 explores the city's rich architectural history as well as contemporary examples of classical design through professional and student portfolios as well as academic articles authored by leaders within the field.
Contributors include Guest Editor Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk; Leslee F. Keys, Director of Historic Preservation and Assistant Professor of History at Flagler College; Bruce Stephenson, professor at Rollins College; Wayne Wood, O.D., Hon. AIA, Historian-at-Large for the Jacksonville Historical Society; Beth Dunlop, writer and editor specializing in architecture; Michael Mesko and William Rutledge; and Andres Duany, founding principal of DPZ CoDesign.

About the Panelists:
Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk is a founding principal of DPZ CoDesign, and Malcolm Matheson Distinguished Professor of Architecture at the University of Miami where she directs the Master in Urban Design Program. Her practice ranges from building and community designs to zoning codes. She teaches university courses in architecture, urban design, and adaptation to climate change. She is a co-founder of the Congress for the New Urbanism and has served on the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts. Among the awards she has received are the Driehaus Prize for Classical Architecture and the National Building Museum’s Vincent Scully Prize.
Beth Dunlop is an Alicia Patterson Fellow writing about the environmental, cultural and architectural consequences of overbuilding. Her newest book, Addison Mizner: Architect of Fantasy and Romance, is the 29th book on architecture and design she has either written or co-written. Most recently she conceived, co-authored and edited the book, Heroes: A Tribute, an homage by the New York artist Doug Meyer to fifty important creative figures who died of AIDS, as well as The Tropical Cottage: At Home in Coconut Grove. She was a Pulitzer-nominated architecture critic for the Miami Herald for more than two decades. From 2011 to 2017 she was editor of Modern Magazine, which was a sister publication to ArtNews and Art in America, and before that, she was editor of HOME Miami, HOME Fort Lauderdale, and the online-only HOME Los Angeles and has contributed widely to prominent design and architecture magazines. A graduate of Vassar College, she divides her time between Miami Beach, Florida and Ipperwash Beach, Ontario.
Teófilo Victoria holds a Masters of Architecture and Urban Design Degree from Columbia University, a Bachelors of Fine Arts and a Bachelors of Architecture from The Rhode Island School of Design. He has been visiting professor at Harvard University and Cornell University and has lectured and participated in juries at the University of Maryland, Notre Dame University and the Instituto Universitario di Architettura in Venice. At the University of Miami he was Undergraduate Program Director from 1995 to 1998 and from 1999 to 2009, Graduate Program Director. He has exhibited at the University of Pennsylvania and at the Institute of Classical Architecture in New York. In 1992 he co-edited Between Two Towers, the Drawings of the School of Miami, with Vincent Scully, Catherine Lynn and Jorge Hernandez and was the guest editor of Archivos de Arquitectura Antillana in 2009.
