Stress Management
By Missouri APCO
Working in public safety communications means assuming tremendous responsibility. You are required to make rapid life or death decisions and you have to be right. You’re expected to deal with the worst emotional trauma in the world and yet maintain absolute composure and control at all times. We have to maintain an exemplary level of professionalism no matter what. It takes a special person to be a 9-1-1 telecommunicator, but we are just people with real human emotions. During this session, we will define stress as well as discuss the signs and symptoms. We will also review some assessments to see what level of stress we may be experiencing. Finally, we’ll talk about ways to relieve stress on the console and for the long haul.
