Celebrate Cary Grant's 120th Birthday with Chips at The Rendezvous
Thursday 18 January, 6pm GMT
Please note that this is a live link up to an in-person event and it will be very informal, but the plan is to sing Happy Birthday to Cary at some point, so make your own fish and chips and/or birthday cake and be prepared for a bit of birthday chaos!
Cary Grant’s favourite meal was FISH AND CHIPS - whenever he came home to Bristol he had to have them – sometimes out of the paper in his Silver Cloud Rolls Royce. Often from THE RENDEZVOUS on Denmark Street.
Cary Grant - Archie Leach – was born in Bristol on 18 January 1904. And Denmark Street – Bristol’s Soho – was Archie and Cary’s stomping ground. The Rendezvous is opposite the the Hippodrome stage door, where Archie worked backstage aged 14. Years later movie icon Cary Grant lunched at Harvey’s Restaurant in Denmark Street and bought his spectacles from Dunscombe’s on the corner with St Augustine’s Parade.
You'll be eating chips with CHRIS YAPP, who leads RAISING CARY GRANT, Show of Strength’s new THEATRE WALK, and UWE’s Professor Charlotte Crofts, director of CARY COMES HOME festival, and hearing about Archie and Cary on Denmark Street.
