Born to Read: Booksellers Talk Bruce Springsteen

By Porter Square Books

Join libromancers from around the country in a celebration of the poetic genius of Bruce Springsteen. Josh Cook (PSB), Meaghan O'Brien (PSB), Danny Caine (Raven), and Daley Farr (Coffee House Press) share their favorite Springsteen songs, discuss the Boss's narrative and poetic chops, answer questions, enjoy adult beverages, and come together around art they all love. Josh will discuss Thunder Road, Danny The Promised Land, and Meaghan and Daley will have their say as well. They will also be collecting donations for the Book Industry Charitable Group (https://www.bincfoundation.org/). This event takes place on Crowdcast, and is free and open to all.

And look for Bruce’s new album Letter to You, scheduled for release on October 23.
Josh Cook is a bookseller and co-owner of Porter Square Books. He is also the author of An Exaggerated Murder. His most recent publication is a short story in the horror anthology Tiny Nightmares. He has a terrible singing voice, but Bruce is sorta in his “range,” and so his go to karaoke song is “Born to Run.”
Danny Caine is the author of the book How to Resist Amazon and Why (Microcosm Publishing, 2021) and the three poetry collections in the Continental Breakfast Trilogy. His writing has appeared in LitHub, Publishers Weekly, DIAGRAM, Barrelhouse, Hobart, and many other places. He's the owner of the Raven Book Store in Lawrence, Kansas, where the poets don't write nothin' at all. They just stand back and let it all be.
Meaghan O’Brien is an editor, writer, and bookseller at Porter Square Books. Former managing editor of Sound of Boston, her writing has been featured on Electric Lit, IndieReader, and Bustle.
Binc (https://www.bincfoundation.org/) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to assisting booksellers in need. The Binc Foundation grew out of a wish of bookstore employees to establish a fund to help their colleagues experiencing unexpected financial crises. Binc is dedicated to assisting bookstore employees across the United States in their greatest time of need.
Through four decades, Bruce Springsteen has served as a cultural phenomenon (twice, at least), a brittle and dark acoustic storyteller, a folk revivalist, a new Dylan, a working-class hero, “rock ‘n roll future,” a force for political and social change, an eloquent songwriter and unabashed party-rocker (often in the same song), a live performer of legendary energies, and a prodigy and preacher of the “majesty, the mystery and the ministry of rock ‘n roll.” A 1999 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Springsteen has sold more than 65 million albums in the U.S. and 120 million worldwide. He’s won 20 Grammys, an Academy Award, been a recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors and performed at halftime at the Super Bowl.
