Fishing for Change: Black Anglers on Conservation, Representation On Water and the Thrill of the Catch
By TPL Programs
Fishing can be a gateway to conservation, but when there is a lack of representation of who is casting a line, how can anglers and organizations help spark joy for new and diverse anglers?
Meet Tarrence Gordwin, founder of @Pondboyss on Instagram. With over 14.4k followers, Tarrence will talk about what got him hooked on fishing, engaging with other people new and interested in fish, and his experiences as a Black angler in the US.
Tarrence will appear in conversation with Demiesha Dennis, also known as @BrownGirl_OutdoorWorld on Instagram, an avid fishing, birding and all-round outdoor enthusiast.
Demiesha will also share how putting on a pair of waders to go fly fishing in Ontario gives her a deeper connection to nature, while also tackling the narrative of who is in the outdoors.
Presented also as part of #BlackMammalogists Week, an event that highlights, supports, and celebrates Black contributions in the field of mammalogy.
This virtual presentation is the Live & Online version of Toronto Public Library's Our Fragile Planet program series.
