When British forces liberated the notorious Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in April 1945, it was the first time they had been confronted with the horrors of the Holocaust.

The Belsen Trial of 1945 was the first trial of Holocaust perpetrators in occupied Western Germany. It was conducted by a British military tribunal and included testimony from British soldiers involved in the liberation of the camp.
