A multi-strand pathway to achieve the net zero challenge
By Installer & elemental
An unprecedented global transition is underway – the world is moving away from fossil fuels towards a low carbon future.
The UK was the first major economy in the world to pass laws to end its contribution to global warming, setting a Net Zero target for all greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
Tune in on Tuesday 23rd February for a live panel discussion hosted by Installer and Sponsored by Baxi.
What will we discuss?
With around 37% of UK carbon emissions occurring as a result of heat and hot water in buildings, a new solution is required. Current Government policy points towards a shift away from gas heating in new buildings from 2025 but the decarbonisation of the existing building stock is a far bigger issue.
The current gas grid is a key national asset and the most developed in the world; 85% of UK homes rely on natural gas for reliable and cost-effective heating but natural gas use is ultimately incompatible with legislated climate targets. Therefore, converting the gas grid to transport low carbon alternative fuels could offer a solution for dealing with the challenges presented by the existing building stock.
Working with UK Government and key industry stakeholders, Baxi is developing a hydrogen boiler as part of the UK’s Net Zero solution. Baxi’s parent company, BDR Thermea Group, is at the forefront of this exciting new technology.
There is not a single answer to the problem of decarbonising buildings. Baxi believes in a multi-strand pathway to the net zero challenge that includes heat pumps, heat networks and conversion of the gas grid to hydrogen where appropriate.
