Uncle Rico's Encore: Mostly True Stories of Filipino Seattle with Peter Bacho

By Everett Public Library

Join Peter Bacho as he discusses his new book, “Uncle Rico's Encore”. The talk will include a brief background lecture on Filipino Seattle from 1950 to 1970, followed by sample readings, and a question-and-answer session.
Bacho was born in Seattle, Washington. As a child Peter lived with his immigrant parents in migrant worker camps, traveling from harvest to harvest. Much of his youth was spent in Seattle’s blue collar and multiethnic Central District, a place of hard lives and tough times. He was the first in his family to graduate from high school, then college and finally law school. These experiences continue to inform his writing.
Bacho is the author of seven books: “Cebu” (1991), “Dark Blue Suit” (1997), “Boxing in Black and White” (1999), “Nelson's Run” (2002), “Entrys” (2005), “Leaving Yesler” (2010), and “Uncle Rico’s Encore” (2021). His books have received several awards, including the 1992 American Book Award. He is an adjunct professor at The Evergreen State College Tacoma Campus.
