Race/History: America's Journey from Slavery to Segregation

By Montclair Literary Festival

Welcome to Succeed2gether's Montclair Literary Festival 2020!
Our second FREE online event is a Race/History discussion about slavery and America's Journey.
An exploration of the legacy of slavery in our country and its impact on racial segregation, African-American culture, and the preservation of African traditions and identity, with Steve Luxenberg, author of Separate: The Story of Plessy v. Ferguson, and America's Journey from Slavery to Segregation and Melissa Cooper, author of Making Gullah: A History of Sapelo Islanders, Race, and the American Imagination. Moderated by Dionne Ford, editor of the book, Slavery's Descendants: Shared Legacies of Race and Reconciliation.
All authors appear for free and the best way to thank and support them is by buying their books!
All books can be purchased from Festival partner Watchung Booksellers.
Succeed2gether’s fourth annual Montclair Literary Festival was scheduled for March 25 to 29, 2020. Due to the current health crisis, Festival Day is now taking place online on Saturday September 12, 2020. See all of the talks by following us on Crowdcast or visiting our website events page here.
The festival is a fundraiser for Montclair-based non-profit Succeed2gether, which offers after-school one-on-one tutoring and enrichment classes with the aim of closing the education and opportunity gaps in Essex County, NJ. You can read more about Succeed2gether and the festival at www.succeed2gether.org. Please donate via Paypal here.
The festival organizing committee wishes to thank event partners Succeed2gether staff, Montclair Public Library, First Congregational Church, and Watchung Booksellers, and festival sponsors Rao's, Montclair State University, West of Hudson Realty Group, and community members.
