Politics/Race: American Poison with Eduardo Porter
By Montclair Literary Festival
Welcome to Succeed2gether's Montclair Literary Festival 2020!
Our seventh FREE online event is a discussion about American racism and the ongoing wounds.
Veteran NY Times journalist Eduardo Porter’s book, American Poison: How Racial Hostility Destroyed Our Promise, is a sweeping examination of how American racism has broken the country's social compact, eroded America's common goods, and damaged the lives of every American—and a heartfelt look at how these deep wounds might begin to heal. He discusses these issues with Jim Johnson, a NJ politician, attorney, and community activist, who was formerly an Assistant Secretary of the Treasury, and former NJ gubernatorial candidate.
All authors appear for free and the best way to thank and support them is by buying their books!
All books can be purchased from Festival partner Watchung Booksellers.
Succeed2gether’s fourth annual Montclair Literary Festival was scheduled for March 25 to 29, 2020. Due to the current health crisis, Festival Day is now taking place online on Saturday September 12, 2020. See all of the talks by following us on Crowdcast or visiting our website events page here.
The festival is a fundraiser for Montclair-based non-profit Succeed2gether, which offers after-school one-on-one tutoring and enrichment classes with the aim of closing the education and opportunity gaps in Essex County, NJ. You can read more about Succeed2gether and the festival at www.succeed2gether.org. Please donate via Paypal here.
The festival organizing committee wishes to thank event partners Succeed2gether staff, Montclair Public Library, First Congregational Church, and Watchung Booksellers, and festival sponsors Rao's, Montclair State University, West of Hudson Realty Group, and community members.
