Join New York Times bestselling author and illustrator Raina Telgemeier, creator of many graphic novels including the 2020 Eisner Award winning Guts, as she sits down with five other writers and illustrators. Maria Scrivan, creator of the Nat Enough series,including the newest installation, Forget Me Nat , Varian Johnson, author of The Parker Inheritance and the upcoming graphic novel Twins, Tom Angleberger, author of Geronimo Stilton and the Sewer Rat Stink, Shannon Wright, illustrator of Johnson's Twins, and Gale Galligan, the cartoonist behind the newest graphic novel adaptation of The Baby-Sitter’s Club called Logan Likes Mary Anne!, get together with Telgemeier to discuss writing, illustrating, and their work on graphic novels.

About the Authors:

Maria Scrivan is an award-winning syndicated cartoonist and New York Times bestselling author. Her comic, Half Full, is syndicated by Tribune Content Agency and appears daily on GoComics and in newspapers across the US including the LA Times and the Chicago Tribune. Her work has been published in MAD Magazine, Highlights, National Lampoon, American Bystander, Parade Magazine, Prospect Magazine (UK), Macmillan Books, Funny Times, Mashable.com, HuffingtonPost.com and Salon.com. Maria's graphic novel series, Nat Enough, is published by Scholastic/Graphix, and the second book, Forget Me Nat, will be available in September 2020. She is a member of the National Cartoonists Society, the Society of Illustrators and the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators.

Varian Johnson is the author of nine novels, including The Parker Inheritance, which was named a 2019 Coretta Scott King Honor Book and a 2018 Boston Globe-Horn Book Award Honor Book among other accolades. His middle grade caper novel, The Great Greene Heist, has been named to over twenty-five state reading and best-of lists. In addition, Varian has written for the Spirit Animals: Fall of the Beasts middle-grade fantasy series as well as novels and short stories for YA audiences. Varian was born in Florence, South Carolina, and attended the University of Oklahoma, where he received a BS in Civil Engineering. He later received an MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults from Vermont College of Fine Arts, and is honored to now be a member of the faculty. Varian lives outside of Austin, TX with his family.

Gale Galligan (they/she) is an Asian-American cartoonist living in Pleasantville, New York. They’re best known for their three bestselling Baby-Sitters Club graphic novels: Dawn and the Impossible Three, Kristy's Big Day, and Boy-Crazy Stacey. Gale holds an MFA in Sequential Art from the Savannah College of Art and Design. When she isn’t making comics, Gale enjoys knitting, reading, and spending time with her roomies: Lemon the leopard gecko, rabbits Dipper and Serena, and Patrick the husband.

Tom Angleberger is the author of the New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal bestselling Star Wars Origami Yoda series. He is also the author-illustrator of Fake Mustache and Horton Halfpott, both Edgar Award nominees, and the Qwikpick Papers series, as well as many other books for kids. But he always wanted to draw comics and he’s finally gotten the chance to draw with Geronimo Stilton and the Sewer Rat Stink! He’s married to acclaimed graphic novelist Cece Bell, who wrote and illustrated El Deafo.


Shannon Wright is an illustrator and cartoonist based out of Richmond, Virginia. She illustrated the picture book My Mommy Medicine by Edwidge Danticat, and the graphic novel Twins by Varian Johnson.
