Ace of Spades: Australia's Flying Diggers
By National Army Museum
During the First World War, Australian troops were colloquially known as ‘diggers’. Eighty-one of them earned the famed title of ‘ace’ while flying with the Australian Flying Corps (AFC) or Britain’s air services.
In this online talk, Rob Fleming, Manager of the National Army Museum’s Templer Study Centre, will discuss the formation of the AFC and its history. He will also look at the role played by Australia’s ‘Aces of Spades’ who each earned their title by achieving a significant number of victories during aerial combat.
