From Bud to Bloom: Growing and Harvesting Dahlias with Kids

By KidsGardening

We’re thrilled to partner with Farm to Table Kids to host a joyful, hands-on webinar celebrating one of the most beautiful blooms of summer: the dahlia!

Led by Farmer Steph, founder of Farm to Table Kids, this interactive session is the perfect mid-season garden check-in. Whether your dahlias are just budding or already in bloom, now is the time to dig into best practices for caring for your dahlias.

During the webinar, we'll explore how to feed your dahlias, how to protect your blooms organically, how to harvest long, healthy stems, discuss what "cut and come again" means in floriculture, and answer your dahlia and garden questions.

Farmer Steph will also walk through highlights from “How to Grow Dahlias with Kids,” a collection of fantastic learning modules created by Farm to Table Kids—available free on mizzen.org! The modules feature nine vibrant, kid-friendly lessons.

Bring your dahlia questions & favorite farm friends —we can’t wait to grow with you!

About Farmer Steph & Farm to Table Kids
Stephanie McDonough, known as Farmer Steph in this community, is a third-generation organic grower, educator, and founder of Farm to Table Kids (FTTK)—a nationally recognized educational platform dedicated to connecting children with nature through regenerative gardening, farm-to-table cooking, and nature crafting.

After her son’s recovery from stage 4 cancer, Steph turned her deep appreciation for the healing power of nature into a joyful mission: helping children and families build lifelong relationships with the earth, their food, and their communities. What began as a local summer farm camp has blossomed into a movement, with programs reaching schools, homeschool families, family farms, and youth organizations across the country.

Farm to Table Kids offers summer camps, school garden consulting, online classes, and nature-based workshops, all designed to empower kids through hands-on, joyful learning rooted in the rhythms of the seasons. FTTK is also a proud partner of Mizzen Education, offering free garden-based learning materials to educators nationwide.

Through her work, Farmer Steph is cultivating more than gardens—she’s growing the next generation of joyful gardeners, mindful stewards, healthy eaters, and community builders.

This webinar will be recorded and available for viewing on this web page immediately following the presentation.
