The Friday Fireside - Building a business with 100 True Fans with Simon Batchelar
By The Happy Startup School
In 2008 Wired editor Kevin Kelly wrote an essay called “1,000 True Fans” in which he proposed that the internet would empower small businesses and creators to make a living by getting 1000 fans to pay them $100 a year each.
A simple concept that is now so commonplace it’s hard to think that it was once seen as a visionary idea.
In a flip to this thinking, Li Jin proposed that in fact, it would be better, and easier, to ask 100 fans for $1000 each.
For this episode we'll be joined by Simon Batchelar, founder of Marketing Success Club, to discuss this idea and what it means to build a business (and market it) based on building a tribe of 100 rather than a 1000.
So despite the relentless churn of social media and the quest for MORE follows likes,/shares/views would your efforts in fact be better spent cultivating a smaller 100 person group of fans?
