Compassionate Supervision Starts Here: How to use ACT & Self-Compassion in the Supervision Process

By THRIVE Academy

In this ACE CEU presentation, Kathryn and Brian Bovino (Behavior Analysts) will explore the challenge of burnout in the field of ABA, along with how to take a proactive approach to support ourselves and the individuals that we supervise.

By supervising ourselves first with self-compassion and mindful awareness, we can better support those we guide and mentor, as well as our community as a whole. By becoming aware of what's important, the stuff that comes up, and noticing if the actions we take are working or not, we will develop the ability to use the same framework and applications in the work we do with others.

Participants will walk away with a better understanding of what it means to supervise ourselves and others with compassion, along with how to use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy/Training Matrix and the 6 processes of ACT to guide our own self-care and connect more effectively within the supervision process.

Learning Objectives:
  • Define compassion and self-compassion.
  • Define Burn-out and Identify at least 3 aspects.
  • Define Psychological Flexibility and Identify the 6 Core Processes of ACT.
  • Describe how the ACT Matrix and other strategies can be used to promote compassion with ourselves and within supervision of others.
  • Identify the 4 Quadrants of the ACT Matrix and the process of how to use them with ourselves and in supervision.
  • Identify the BACB Ethics Code that relate to Self-Compassion, Self-Care, and Supervision.
