Howard Gillman (Chancellor, University of California, Irvine)

Howard Gillman is chancellor of the University of California, Irvine, and an award-winning scholar of the American Constitution and the Supreme Court, holding faculty appointments in UC Irvine’s School of Law and Department of Political Science. He also co-chairs the advisory board of UC’s National Center for Free Speech and Civic Engagement. Before becoming chancellor in 2014, Gillman served as UC Irvine’s provost and executive vice chancellor, and previously spent two decades at the University of Southern California, including as dean of the Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences. He earned his bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in political science at UCLA.
